Solid Pitching Performance, 7th Inning Rally Leads to 4-2 win over Legion

Playing for the first time ever at Harry Grove Stadium, the Flying Dogs faced off with the FSK Post 11 Legion Baseball team. Ray Riggles was given the opportunity to make the start and he came through with 3 solid innings, allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits. Following his lead, Dustin Pease pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4 while only allowing a baserunner on a hit by pitch. Not to be outdone, Matt Smith came in and gave up only 1 hit while walking 2 and striking out 6. Despite all of this, the Dogs still trailed 2-1 heading into the 7th inning.

In the top of the seventh, the first three batters reached and then Chris Godfrey hit a sacrifice fly to even the score at 2. Steve Canale then came up and delivered the go ahead single to make it 3-2. The lead went to 4-2 on a passed ball while Sean Withers was hitting. FSK Post 11 was not able to muster a hit in the bottom of the 7th and the Flying Dogs were able to close out a come from behind victory.

Ian Eberly made his Flying Dogs debut and lead the team with two hits, including a double. Dave Hostetter, Mick Myers, Randy Laugher, Matt Myers and Kyle Watkins also provided hits on the day.

The win should be a springboard into the Reno Powell Memorial Day Weekend Tournament in Hagerstown. The Flying Dogs will start off the tournament with games on Saturday vs, the Brunswick Orioles and Linglestown Twilight before taking on the Hagerstown Braves Sunday afternoon.
