Flying Dogs 8 Renegades 1
Behind six strong innings from Matt Myers and homers by Mick Myers and Matt Buchholz, the Flying Dogs opened up their first season in the Blue Ridge League with a 8-1 victory. Mick Myers hit a two run homer in the top of the 1st and Matt Buchholz hit a three run homer in the top of the 2nd as part of a 5 run inning. The Dogs got multiple hit games from Matt Myers and Miguel Pereira. On the mound, Matt Myers went 6 innings, allowing only 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 3.
Flying Dogs 4 Renegades 1
After a rainout at Hedgesville, the Flying Dogs hosted the Maryland Renegades at Tuscarora High and came away with the victory. Matt Smith made his first start for the Flying Dogs, throwing a complete game in which he allowed 1 run while striking out 9. Trailing 1-0, the Dogs plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a RBI single by Miguel Pereira and a 2 run triple by Ian Eberly. Mick Myers added a RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd to complete the scoring. Miguel Pereira led the Flying Dogs with 3 hits while Randy Baugher and Mick Myers each had two hits.
Brunswick Orioles 7 Flying Dogs 0
The Flying Dogs welcomed the Brunswick Orioles to Tuscarora High School only to be held in check by Brian Powell in a 7-0 loss. Powell, who defeated the Flying Dogs in the NABF Semifinals last year, pitched a complete game four hitter. Only Ian Eberly, Steve Shriner, Matt Buchholz and Patrick Lehmann could muster hits for the Dogs.
Flying Dogs 6 Blue Sox 2
The Flying Dogs traveled to Martinsburg for a doubleheader and overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win 6-2 over the Martinsburg Blue Sox. Trailing 2-0, the Dogs tied it up in the 4th on a two run homer from Mick Myers, his second of the season. The Dogs added two more runs in the 5th on four hits including a RBI single by Matt Myers and then two more runs in the 7th on a two run single by Chris Godfrey. The Flying Dogs were paced by Ian Eberly’s three hit game and additional multi hit games from Matt and Mick Myers. Dave Hostetter earned the win on the mound, going the distance while allowing only two runs, striking out five.
Blue Sox 10 Flying Dogs 3
The Blue Sox came back in the second game of the day and jumped all over starter Matt Myers for 8 runs in the first two innings, which proved to be much more than what the Dogs could overcome. Matt Hughes came in relief to go the remaining four innings, allowing only two more runs while striking out 4. The Dogs were able to muster 3 runs off Martinsburg ace Paul Chenoweth but he held the Dogs to 4 hits while striking out 9. Kyle Watkins had two of the four hits while Chris Godfrey and Steve Canale had the other two hits.
After two weeks, the Dogs sit at 3-2 in the Blue Ridge League. Next on the schedule will be games at home against the Maryland Renegades on Tuesday before going to Brunswick to play the Orioles on Thursday and then a doubleheader against the Brunswick Express on Sunday.
