The Flying Dogs rode a complete game gem from Dustin Pease and a solid offensive output from Ian Eberly and Matt Myers to beat the Brunswick Express 6-2 on Wednesday evening at Tuscarora High School.
Pease made his long awaited return to the Dogs and did not disappoint, going the distance while allowing only two runs on three hits and striking out 15 while walking none.
Offensively, the Dogs were able to score two in the first following a walk to Eberly and a bunt single by Myers as Matt Buchholz drove a single up the middle to score Eberly and Myers. They increased the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second as Kyle Watkins reached on a hit by pitch and Eberly singled. Matt Myers hit a comebacker to the pitcher who threw it away allowing Watkins and Eberly to score. After that, the Dogs were kept in check until the 6th when Steve Shriner walked and Kyle Watkins singled. Eberly came up and provided the insurance runs needed with his third hit of the game to make the score 6-2.
Eberly and Matt Myers had five of the seven hits for the Flying Dogs on the night while Buchholz and Watkins provided the other two. Eberly also stole two bases. Buchholz and Eberly had two RBIs apiece.
With the win, the Dogs move to 9-4 in the Blue Ridge League. They now have to run through a gauntlet of five games in the next three days starting with a trip to Brunswick High to take on the Orioles at 6:30 on Thursday. After their Thursday matchup, they welcome the Hedgesville Pirates to Tuscarora for a Saturday Doubleheader. Then on Sunday, the Dogs head to Hedgesville to finish a suspended game and make up the second game of the doubleheader.
