Flying Dogs Changing Their Name in 2011?

2009 marked the end of the Flying Dog Brewery’s support of the ball club.  With a changing corporate atmosphere and a shift in priorities we were unable to garner their support for the 2010 season.  The team has been discussing the possibility of a name change for 2011 with many believing that we should no longer bear their name if they are not going to sponsor the team.  Some veterans, however feel that the Flying Dogs is the clubs identity and we should keep our name.  What is your opinion?  Take our poll.

10 Inning Marathon Suspended-No Blood Yet In 3-Game Series

Game 1 of the opening round playoff between the Frederick Flying Dogs and Mt. Airy Patriots was suspended by darkness Thursday night after the two teams played to a 4-4 tie through 10 innings.

The Flying Dogs jumped out to an early lead on a first inning solo blast off the bat of catcher Chris Fulda. They extended the lead in the 3rd to 2-0 following a double by Roebuck, and a defensive miscue by the Patriots.

The Flying Dogs were cruising behind pitcher Matt Buchholz who threw 9 innings striking out 14 and giving up only 1 earned run. A two-out Patriot’s rally yielding 4 runs in the fourth was led by timely hits, and some fielding errors by the Dogs, who were later able to settle down and tie the game back at 4-4 in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Steve Canale and Bear Rand.  Tsikerdanous, Fulda and Moses each had 2 hits on the day.

The score remained 4-4 until the game was suspended at the end of 10 full innings due to darkness. It will be completed on Saturday at Landon Burns Field in Westminster at 4:00 p.m. Game 2 of the 3 game series will be played immediately following completion of Game 1.
